A gay haven, Madrid has some of the best shopping to suit every taste. And when it comes to specific gay stores and shopping, Madrid has a few great options lined up.
Chueca: gay shops a go-go!
The gayborhood of Chueca is host to a variety of specialist, LGBT-friendly shops. Underwear and sportswear fans should check out the two branches of XXX. For those who wish to be a little daring, Boxer and SR Leather offer up fetish clothing, along with accessories and toys.
But Chueca has more to offer than gay clothing stores. Gay bookstore Berkana is a Madrid stalwart, bringing LGBT literature and magazines to the local community for years. It’s a real treat to visit.
Madrid’s Malasaña: high street, hip and vintage
Nearby, Calle Fuencarral cuts through Malasaña, offering a range of big-name stores and trendy boutiques for the gay shopper: think Adidas, G-Star Raw, Diesel, Sfera, Calvin Klein Jeans, and a selection of stylish sneaker stores.
However, if you’re more into vintage and second-hand clothing, Malasaña (which is also next to Chueca) is great for this, too: it contains many vintage and retro clothing stores. Similarly, check out El Rasto flea market every Sunday in La Latina. Madrileños love coming here every weekend to browse the antiques – and cute gay guys – while brunching on tapas.
Mainstream Madrid
Puerta del Sol is one of the most popular places in Madrid. People from all over flock to this area to shop at big-name department stores such as El Cortes Inglés, Apple, Topshop, and Zara (Spanish contemporary menswear and womenswear at bargain prices).
As you can see, Madrid's stores offer a wide range of choices for the gay shopper: just be cautious not to overspend with your credit card.
